One such project is a luxury 300 sqm apartment in Vilnius decorated with Ecowood’s modern style oak doors and skirting boards.
Natural Oak for Urban Interiors
With this project, Lithuanian design studio OU YOU has proven that “less is more.”
Interior designer Justina Skurdelytė wanted the apartment to have “plenty of space, as little furniture as possible, and all the beauty expressed in textures”.
“When I was commissioned to design this interior, I came in to look around. It felt like somewhere between the ground and the sky, with people rushing downstairs and cars moving down the avenue. Up here, you feel safe. I wanted to reinforce that feeling with the interior,” Justina told the Lithuanian magazine “Structum”.
While Lithuanians usually prefer light, versatile, Scandinavian interiors, the owner of this skyscraper’s top-floor apartment has let the designer create a darker, New-york style, artistic penthouse interior.
The designer combined ultra-modern elements, such as embossed micro-cement walls, with natural materials — stone, linen, and oak. When asked why she chose oak, the designer emphasised natural wood’s aesthetic and functional qualities. “Firstly, wood is durable and easy to renew, lasting many years. Secondly, the texture of the wooden doors has an adorable look. The raised relief shows up extremely well in different lighting and is decorative.”
Indeed, painted in a dark colour from the NCS colour palette, the oak door illustrated how well oakwood can complement urban, luxurious interiors. The doors were accompanied with skirting boards that visually unified the different spaces of the apartment.
